Well, it was quite an exciting night. The highlight had to be Robin Williams' Cecile B. Demille acceptance speech. It was quite an unpredictable evening, therefore it made for surprises not being that surprising. The two main surprises had to be at the beginning of the evenging with the wins for Clive Owen and Natalie Portman. The sad thing is is that they are still not assured Oscar nominations. I'd say I did quite well correctly predicting 10/13 categories. Additionally, I beat every Oscar site on the web. I beat the websites: And the Oscar Goes to..., Award Speculation, The Film Experience, The Oscar Igloo, The Oscar Jam, The Oscar Race, Oscar Boulevard, Oscar sites, and from Oscarwatch: Daniel Kenealy, Jeff Lelek, and Sasha Stone. All of them got 9 or fewer correct, while I triumph with 10! I hate to brag, but I didn't think it would happen. Anyway here is my analysis. Winners are in bold. If my prediction is correct it is green, if it's incorrect, it's red.

Best Drama Picture The Aviator Closer Finding Neverland Hotel Rwanda Kinsey Million Dollar Baby |
My Prediction: The Aviator. Million Dollar Baby was close, yet since Aviator had already won two awards, it was bound to win this. It still isn't the frontrunner for the Oscar though. |
Best Comedy or Musical Picture Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Incredibles The Phantom of the Opera Ray Sideways |
My prediction: Sideways This was simple. Everybody knew it was Sideways, despite the fact that it only won one other award that night. It is still a three way race for the Oscar with Sideways, Aviator, and Baby. |
Best Drama Actor Javier Bardem- The Sea Inside Leonardo Dicaprio- The Aviator Don Cheadle- Hotel Rwanda Johnny Depp- Finding Neverland Liam Neeson- Kinsey |
My prediction: Leonardo Dicaprio This was the most unpredictable category of the evening. Any of the five could have won. After a long analysis, I chose Dicaprio over Depp, and was right to do so. I think he has a chance at toppling Foxx for the Oscar. |
Best Comedy or Musical Actor Jim Carrey- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Jamie Foxx- Ray Paul Giamatti- Sideways Kevin Kline- De-Lovely Kevin Spacey- Beyond the Sea |
My prediction: Jamie Foxx This was the easiest category of the night. No surprise. I have a feeling that he might still miss the Oscar. |
Best Drama Actress Scarlett Johanson- A Love Song For Bobby Long Nicole Kidman- Birth Imelda Staunton- Vera Drake Hilary Swank- Million Dollar Baby Uma Thurman- Kill Bill: Vol. II |
My prediction: Hilary Swank I thought that Thurman had the potential for an upset, but still I knew that it would go to Swank. This is indeed a repeat of five years ago. I really hope that Bening can beat Swank to the Oscar. |
Best Comedy or Musical Actress Annette Bening- Being Julia Ashley Judd- De-Lovely Emmy Rossum- The Phantom of the Opera Kate Winslet- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Renee Zellweger- Bridget Jones 2 |
My prediction: Annette Bening Even though Kate had some potential, I thought it would go to Bening so that she could go on to win the Oscar. Kate is still way overdue though. |
Best Supporting Actor David Carradine- Kill Bill Vol: II Thomas Hayden Chruch- Sideways Jamie Foxx- Collateral Morgan Freeman- Million Dollar Baby Clive Owen- Closer |
My prediction: Thomas Haden Church This was the first category and the biggest surprise of the night. Most were predicting Church or Freeman. I guess Church has finally lost the steam that he had. I bet that this is now the most unpredictable category. Church's loss may help Freeman get the Oscar that he deserves. |
Best Supporting Actress Cate Blanchett- The Aviator Laura Linney- Kinsey Virginia Madsen- Sideways Natalie Portman- Closer Meryl Streep- The Manchurian Candidate |
My prediction: Cate Blanchett This was the other big surprise. The hfpa must have loved Closer more than we thought they did. This also makes this category more confusing. I still hope that Cate can pull off the Oscar though. |
Best Director Clint Eastwood- Million Dollar Baby Marc Forster- Finding Neverland Mike Nichols- Closer Alexander Payne- Sideways Martin Scorsese- The Aviator |
My prediction: Clint Eastwood I am so proud of myself here. While most were saying Scorsese, I took a risk by saying Eastwood, and got it. I merely think this is a result of Scorsese winning two years ago, and won't hurt his chanes of winning the Oscar. |
Best Screenplay The Aviator Closer Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Finding Neverland Sideways |
My prediction: Sideways Sadly, Charlie Kaufman didn't win again. Luckily, I still have faith that he'll win the Oscar where he won't be competing against Payne and Taylor. |
Best Score The Aviator Finding Neverland Million Dollar Baby Sideways Spanglish |
My prediction: Finding Neverland This was the other surprise of the night for me. I simply thought that they wouldn't award Howard Shore two years in a row. But apparently, since it's a weak year for music, they did. |
Best Song Alfie- "Old Habits Die Hard" Hotel Rwanda- "Million Voices" The Phantom of the Opera- "Learn to be Lonely" The Polar Express- "Believe" Shrek 2- "Accidentally in Love" |
My prediction: Alfie This was another tough call, but I made the right choice thinking that Mick Jagger has never been awarded here. He had quite an interesting speech as well. |
Best Foreign Language Film The Chorus House of Flying Daggers The Motorcycle Diaries The Sea Inside A Very Long Engagement |
My prediction: The Sea Inside It was going to be this or Daggers. Javer Bardem's nomination probably helped win this. It will probably go on to win the Oscar as well. |
