Top Three Contenders

1. How to Train Your Dragon 2. Toy Story 3 3. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Others: Alpha and Omega, Despicable Me, Hoodwinked 2, The Illusionist, Megamind, Shrek: The Final Chapter, Tangled, Yogi Bear

There don't seem to be too many animated films this year so far, therefore there will likely only be three nominees. Anyways, conventional wisdom would put the Pixar film in the frontrunner spot. But I'm hesitant to do so this year. Toy Story 3 will probably be good, but everybody will compare it to the first two films, and there's no way it can be THAT good. Therefore, in the end it will feel like something of a disappointment. This makes the way for an animated film from another studio that got excellent reviews and pretty good box-office to take the award, and I think How to Train Your Dragon is the rare film that has accomplished that and can beat Pixar. It does have a 98% RT score, higher than most Pixar films. It will be a rare repeat of like when Shrek beat Monsters Inc. or Happy Feet beat Cars. In the third spot I'll go with Legend of the Guardians just because judging from the trailer, the animation and cinematography look beautiful. Voters will likely choose it for that reason.
